The week in theatre

Well, been a busy week – my deadline periods are looming, so I’ve been flat out at work. I’ve also been doing quite a lot of theatre reviewing, so here’s my pick of the week…



Burlesque: a new musical at the Jermyn Street Theatre, which is fun but a little tame for my tastes, and not a lot of actual burlesque in it. Read the full review here.


Matilda: this was an utter joy, a great musical with fantastic performances (Bertie Cavel is a standout) and an amazing set. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough, and it got only my second 5 star review.

Reasons To Be Pretty: alas this was pretty disappointing: the performances were OK, but the story was lackluster and all the characters were unlikeable. Read my review here.
